Overview

Start your career as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with a globally recognised qualification

The aviation industry is growing fast around the world, with more airlines expanding their fleets and increasing demand for air travel. As a result, there is a rising need for Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers — professionals who ensure that aircraft are safe, reliable, and ready to fly.

At Emirates Aviation University (EAU), we offer a unique Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme that prepares you for a successful career in this exciting industry. This programme not only leads to a bachelor’s degree but also gives you the opportunity to earn internationally recognised licences from:

  • GCAA (UAE General Civil Aviation Authority)
  • EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency)

What makes this programme special?

  • Dual Pathway: Earn your bachelor’s degree while working toward your GCAA and EASA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licences.
  • Real-World Experience: Complete 2 years of Practical Maintenance Experience (PME) with one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines — Emirates.
  • International Recognition: EAU is approved by both EASA and GCAA to offer licence training for:
    • B1.1 (Aeroplanes – Turbine engines)
    • B1.2 (Aeroplanes – Piston engines)
    • B2 (Avionics)

Programme Duration and Structure

The Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is designed to give you both academic knowledge and hands-on industry experience. The programme is divided into two key phases over a duration of 4½ years:

Phase 1: Full-Time Study on Campus (2½ Years)

  • During the first 2½ years, you will study full-time at Emirates Aviation University.
  • You’ll complete your core academic modules and theoretical training required for both the bachelor’s degree and the GCAA/EASA (B1.1 and B1,2) licence.
  • Additionally, you will gain hands-on practical experience in our workshops and labs.
  • This phase builds your foundation in aircraft systems, engineering principles, avionics, and maintenance practices.
  • To obtain the B2 category, an additional 6 months will be added to phase 1 of the programme, this is optional, and students can decide if they wish to complete their B2 modules after completing their B1 modules.

Phase 2: Practical Experience and Part-Time Study (2 Years)

  • In the final 2 years, you’ll transition into full-time Practical Maintenance Experience (PME) Training with a certified maintenance organisation — including the opportunity to train with Emirates Airline.
  • At the same time, you’ll continue your bachelor’s degree modules on a part-time block mode basis to complete the academic requirements for graduation.
  • This phase ensures you gain the hands-on experience required to apply for the Basic B Licence, while also completing your degree.

What to Expect

  • High Job Demand: Based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in the next 20 years, airlines will have to add 25,000 new aircraft to the current 17,000 strong commercial fleet. By 2026, the industry will need 480,000 new technicians to maintain these aircraft. Clearly, the international market has a sizable shortage of Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
  • Higher Education Opportunities: Your degree will allow you to apply directly to master’s programmes without needing additional work experience after obtaining your licence.
  • Globally Recognised Qualification: The programme is accredited by:
    • Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, UAE
    • EASA and GCAA
    • Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) – fulfilling full requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and partial for Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Your EAU advantage

Our programmes provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required to succeed in your chosen specialisation and the aviation industry in general.

Future career opportunities

Graduates of this programme are well-prepared for roles as Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in both EASA and GCAA approved airlines and maintenance organisations around the world. You’ll also have the academic foundation to move into technical engineering roles or pursue further studies in aviation, engineering, and management.

Already have qualifications?

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) entrants who hold the Advanced Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering certificate can proceed to continue their studies towards the degree of Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. However, they will be required to complete the last two years of the programme on part time basis.

In addition to the above requirements, entrants who hold the GCAA/EASA CoR are required to complete a set of 7 listed additional modules in order to avail the Ministry of Education accreditation.
